Why couldn’t the little boy go see the pirate movie? Because it was rated “Arrrgh!”

I'm thinking about putting a cool watch on my belt. Nevermind... that'd just be a waist of time!

That dad joke was submitted by our member Jace Hall. Thanks, Jace!

Tips from a Dad…

Stay calm and think before you act or react - Sometimes delaying your reaction with a simple statement, “Shoot, we’re going to revisit this later,” will give you a reprieve. Not only will this cause the kid to think and think (and panic a little), it will give you time to avoid a reaction and provide thoughtful discipline.

Teach them to be kind. Kindness costs nothing but can mean a huge amount to someone on the receiving end. They are watching us, even when we don’t think they are.

Teach them that it takes strength to be different. Different doesn't mean bad, it doesn't mean wrong or weird, just different.

Help them understand that while the world has its dangers, it's also filled with kindness and beauty, including the people in it.

Teach them how to think for themselves. If you do nothing else do this. Let them solve problems, even when you have the easiest way to solve them. Respond to their questions with, “I wonder how that is true?” rather than giving them answers.

Have fun! Play around, be a little goofy, and don't hesitate to sing and dance—even if you're not great at it. Watching you be silly shows them that it's perfectly okay to relax and not take ourselves too seriously.

Create core memories. They won't remember you worked late to pay bills, but they will remember when you worked late and missed an event!

Talk to your kids. Let them select the topic. Do not ignore them for your phone. Keep talking to them. It's how people become interesting, because they can converse and think and reason. Plus it's fun and you will learn as much if not more as they show you the world from their viewpoint!

That advice was from our member Nathan Kedwards. Way to go, Nathan! 💪
